The Story of Tiger

Fierce and determined like the animal - the history of the “Tiger” name dates back to 1962 in South New Jersey. Newman Lewis Sr. was born under unfortunate circumstances that did not allow him to be taken home from the hospital as a newborn baby. After lots of back and forth travel, a family friend noted the situation was like a tiger pacing, looking for freedom. Soon after, the determination paid off and the baby was free to go home, with the nickname of Tiger.

Decades later, Tiger’s son Newman Lewis uses what started as a nickname for his father, as a hallmark to impact his community in Philadelphia. Newman overcame his own disadvantages as a young man, took initiative, and ultimately became a licensed electrician. To pay it forward, Newman’s purpose is to encourage others to achieve a goal of learning a trade to better their lives, the lives of their families, and the community. Tiger Electrical Academy will be the dynamic educational institution for this mission.
